A fire in Wharton early Saturday morning left three people injured and multiple families displaced, according to authorities.
Firefighters responded to the Overlook Village Complex just before 2 a.m. The blaze damaged five townhouses.
Harold Hescock lives on Topside Street, where the structure fire took place. He said his dog alerted him to the situation.
"It was the nastiest, quickest fire that I’ve ever seen," Hescock said. "But fortunately, no lives were lost.”
A firefighter, a police officer and a resident were treated for minor injuries at the scene.
The Morris County Office of Emergency Management and the Red Cross were helping those impacted by the fire as of Saturday night.
Officials say the Wharton Borough Hall will serve as a collection site for donations. The police department says the following items are needed, and that the list will likely grow:
- Women's size 5 / medium clothing
- Women's small shirts and size 26-28 pants
- Women's size 10 clothing
- Women's size 8.5 shoes
- Men's and women's general medium clothing
- Men's and women's underwear and socks
A cause of the fire was not immediately know as of Saturday night.
