When it comes to spotted lanternflies, experts say they're an insect Long Island may just have to learn to live with.
Sightings of the red and black winged bugs are on the rise, as the insect's peak season is right around the corner.
While some residents have been proactive in trying to get ahead of their return, others say the only real way to combat the issue is by removing the lanternflies' favorite tree, the Tree of Heaven, which is not native to Long Island.
Experts say the bugs are not harmful to people or pets.
